The week ahead 22.04.2019
Today is the final day of the Easter holidays in those countries where it is still celebrated, which will continue to ensure a proportionate reduction in liquidity as people tend to extend their holidays into this period. There are some minor figures scheduled for the US at 14:00 GMT in the form of Existing Home Sales, but while these are expected to show improvement, are hardly likely to have significant impact. The same could be said of Tuesday’s New Home Sales data – also at 14:00. Wednesday gets going at 01:30 with Australian CPI and the only other event of the day is the Bank of Canada interest rate decision where an actual change would be something of a surprise. Thursday is a bank holiday in Australia & New Zealand so those markets should remain quiet. It is also the day for the Bank of Japan to announce its interest rate decision where, once again, nothing will happen. US Durable goods numbers follow at 12:30 where a slight rise of 0.2% is expected for March after February’s disappointing 1.6% drop. The day ends at 23:30 with Japanese CPI at 23:50. There is some minor PPI data out of Australia at 01:30 but the event of the week comes on Friday at 12:30 with US GDP, expected to show a healthy 2.6% increase.
